WAGS Board of Directors in Attendance: Kathie Diapoulis, (President), Lula Bauer (VP to Virginia) Sally D’Italia (VP to Maryland), Pat Lusk (Treasurer), Amy Thompson (R&D Director)

Kathie called the meeting to order at 7:30pm and roll call was taken.
R&D Director Report –
- 283 yellow cards
- 13 red cards
- 10 yellow/red cards
- Total of 306 cards in the fall 2012 season
- Sit Out Card under R&D Section on web site
- All cards are posted on web site
- Email sent if teams reach 10 points during the season
- Emails are sent to clubs regarding field issues
- Continue working with STAR’s
- Introduced Michelle White (R&D Administrator)
- Amy and Michelle available to answer any questions
VP to Virginia Report-
- VYSA Workshop – 2/1 and 2/2 in Richmond
- POD Coordinator - There is a FAQ on the web site
- If interested, please note this on the fees forms
- WAGS is looking to hire an Executive Director
- No deadline – continue to take resumes until the position has been filled
- Glen Buckley recommended this position
- Individual in place within six weeks
- Glen’s report will be on-line prior to the beginning of the season
New Club Entry Committee Report (Pat Lusk) –
- One application, Woodbridge SC
- Did not bring forward to membership vote
- Did not have a feeder system (REC)
- Newly formed club
- Looking for volunteers to serve on the committee
Treasurer Report-
- Accountant in the process of filing for the past calendar year
- VA Sales Tax Return
- MD Sales Tax Returns
- Quarterly and Year End Federal and state Payroll Tax and 1099 filings
- Federal Income Tax Return
- Annual Workers Compensation Audit
- Financial Facts and Figures
- League Revenue increased
- Tournament Revenue has increased
- Tournament Hotel Rebates have increased
- Referee fees have increased
- Sportsmanship award fees have increased
- Team stipends increased
- Paid NSCAA fees for the benefit of teams participating in the tournament
- Numbers are not final for 2012
- Pat to speak with CPA as to when the financials will be available to the membership
- Changes made
- CPA will be handling all finances
- Tournament success due to greater participation
VP to Maryland Report-
- Attended NSCAA Conference and Women’s breakfast
- WAGS has sponsored the award for Excellence since 1999
- This year’s recipient was Leslie Gallimore, University of Washington
- Great speech from Michelle Akers
- In attendance were idols such as Caren Gabarra and Kristine Lily
- Male Coaches outnumbered the female coaches – how can we get more females involved?
- National Women’s Soccer League
- 8 teams participating
- Our local team – Washington Spirit
- 7 international players
- Salary will be paid by their national federations
o Canada players – Robin Gayle, Diana Matheson
o USA players – Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger, Lori Lindsay
o Mexico players – Alin Garciamendex, Guadalupe Worbis
o Games will be played at the Maryland SoccerPlex
- College Draft
- Took place at the convention
- Tiffany McCarty (Laurel, MD); Caroline Miller (Rockville, MD); Holly King (Ashburn, VA)
- Scholarships
- Mavis Derflinger –
- One MD and one VA player for ODP expenses
- Adele Dolansky –
- 4 scholarships at $2,500.00 each
Administrator Report-
- Fall 2012 was success – partly due to the weather
- Majority of the teams have registered for the spring 2013 season. Thanks to all teams who have been diligent in entering the information
- STAR checks have been mailed
- STAR classes will be sent to U12 and U13 teams and posted with finalized
- Sportsmanship information is being collected – checks will be mailed to the winners shortly
President’s Report
- WAGS is one of the Washington Spirit sponsors
- Looking into overseas trips and local tournaments
- Female coaches will be receiving an email regarding a rally to give the league a boost
- Thanked the membership for mailing in the fees and forms. Less chance of losing the paper work
- Considering responses of survey
- What needs to be done to keep this league moving in the right direction
- Adding positions to the BOD
- Adding a qualifier tournament
- Errors were found in the technical rewrite of the rules – will be available in June
Proposed by-laws and rule changes were discussed and voted on.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:30pm
