U-11 Coach/Manager Meeting

December 1, 2004

Fairview Park Marriott

Kathie stated that this meeting is for discussion only.  No vote will be taken regarding any U-11 issues.  If the teams want to propose a rule change, they must submit it through their club rep.

Below are the items discussed and the feedback from the coaches:

v     The girls enjoyed the experience.  They all were able to play and touch the ball. They were not standing on the sidelines.

v     The parents are not supporting the coaches in this format

v     One team stated that the entire team does not like the 8 v 8 format

v     The teams thanked Lula Bauer (LMVSA) for providing playing fields for some of the VA teams.

v     A portion of the teams do not like the dual sided games.  They would prefer one game

v     If the teams are to play 8 v 8, they should play 8 v 8 not 7 v 7, 6 v 6, etc. Make sure each team has sufficient players to play 8 v 8

v     There were not enough referees at the games.  Some fields had one referee and others had to use parents.  Kathie stated that the teams were only paying for one referee.  WAGS is covering the additional referee and mentor costs.

v     Coaches liked the amount of touches the players were getting

v     Players did not want to play for their opponents if they were short on players.

v     Coaches have a hard time watching two games.

v     Teams would like to have scores posted.  The players keep score on the field anyway.

v     Some of the fields were too small to split into two fields.  Kathie stated that this was a club issue.

v     Some teams want the competition not the development.  They think the development should come from the clubs not the league.

v     Some teams are worried that teams will leave and play in other leagues.

v     Is WAGS going to 8 v 8 in U-12?  Kathie stated that with State Cup at u-12 and Regionals, at this time, it is not feasible for this format.  WAGS will continue 11 v 11 for U-12.
