LEAGUE NOTES
VP Virginia: Walt Lenar introduced himself to the membership. He began by thanking the membership, female athletes and Board for their work to make this league a success. Walt attended the NSCAA Convention in Baltimore and the Women’s Award of Excellence.
Women’s Award of Excellence: Every year WAGS sponsors a luncheon at the NSCAA Convention. This year’s recipient of the award was Dr. Colleen Hacker. Dr. Hacker is a sports psychologist . Dr. Hacker will give half of the award of $5,000.00 to the Mia Hamm Foundation and the Go Girl Go Project.
National C License: VYSA is offering a coaching course for a C license March 2-6 and March 10-13 at Virginia Wesleyan College. Contact VYSA for further details.
Treasurer: Mike Sybert was unable to attend. He will have financial statements for the membership at the March meeting in Maryland.
Secretary: Reviewed the New Club Entry Applications. Pat stated that the committee did not have a quorum, therefore they could not make any recommendations.
Cugini Soccer Club: Pat reviewed with the membership the opinion of the committee and facts regarding the club. A motion was made to accept the club into WAGS, second, then there was a discussion. The membership felt that the club is small and are not bringing any new fields or referees to the league. They also only want to bring one team into WAGS. They do not have a big Recreation Program to feed into their travel program.
A vote was taken to allow Cugini SC to enter WAGS. The motion failed unanimously.
Virginia Soccer Association (VSA): Pat reviewed with the membership the opinion of the committee and the facts regarding the club. A motion was made to accept VSA into WAGS. There was a second motion and discussion. The membership felt the club had a big Recreation Program, fields that are not currently utilized by WAGS and that they have their own referee pool. A vote was taken and VSA was accepted unanimously by the membership to join WAGS.
R & D Director: Lula Bauer thanked the clubs who recently attended an R&D Hearing . She especially thanked the MCLN U-18 team for attending and representing themselves well. This team is now going to college and will no longer will be participating in WAGS. It was impressive that the coach and players attend the R&D Hearing.
