Treasurer
Bob Dieterle reviewed the WAGS Financial Statement with the Membership. The League successfully completed its first audit by a CPA and received an unqualified opinion. Bob stated that he was available after the meeting for any questions the Membership may have.
Bob also stated that he is organizing a College Showcase for the U-17 and U-19 Teams. If anyone is interested in sitting on the committee they are to contact him.
Secretary
Thanked everyone for a good season and wished them a happy holiday.
R & D Director
363 Cards were issued this season. That is 16% over last season. 1-6 cards went to the coaches. Bob was holding hearings every two weeks. Bob would like to see things improve for next season.
Administrator
Robin thanked everyone for their cooperation during the season. She reviewed the information in the packets, end of season standings, winter office hours, sportsmanship award list, and sportsmanship awards (if the teams received them). There was something new added this season. Instead of participation pins, the teams received window stickers. She also reviewed the information regarding the mail outs to the Club Reps and reminded them to download the Membership Forms regarding the Club Rep information. Also she reminded the Club Reps to have their new teams entering the League download the Team Membership Form. They will not have one mailed to them. All forms will be available for download soon.
One last note, if some of the Club Reps had bite marks on their inserts, you can blame it on the new Miller addition... our 4 month old Yorkshire Terrier, Cobi!!
President
Kathie noted that several teams neglected to fill in their game report cards correctly, phone in their scores or did not call their opponents 72 hours prior to their match. We have a list of those teams who failed to complete their responsibilities. When the time comes to decide whether the teams have 3 or 4 home games, the teams on the list will receive 3 or less. The list was available for anyone who would like to see it.
Referees
Kathie stated that the situation with referees has become increasingly problematic, especially in Northern VA. The WAGS Board of Directors has approved a motion that will require each club to submit the name of at least one individual who will be certified at WAGS expense and provided a beginners kit. Clubs are welcome to submit as many individuals as they would like for training with the understanding that we are doing this in order to increase the referee base for our games. We ask only a promissory note be signed stating that they will officiate at least ten (10) matches per season. This training will take place in February in various locations throughout Virginia and Maryland. As soon as the classes are finalized, we will provide you with specifics. In addition to the classes, WAGS will be increasing fees for referees for the Spring 2001 season. We are also considering a plan to provide bonuses for referees who work a certain amount of matches each season.
WAGS/NCSL has a new assignor - Juan Velasquez. Juan will be working with Mike and Judith Newman starting the Spring 2001 Season.
Important Dates
Thursday, January 25th - Club Rep meeting/rule changes and new club entry. Have the proposed rule changes to the WAGS Office no later than January 1st.
Tuesday, January 30th - Deadline for League entry.
Friday, February 16th - Last day to drop from the League and receive a refund/Field Forms due to Demosphere
Wednesday, February 28th - Caroline Silby, author of "the Games Girls Play" will be speaking about items specific to the female athlete. Coaches and parents are invited to attend. Tournament goods will also be available that evening.
Fields
Kathie stated that she will be driving to the fields that teams were complaining about prior to the start of the Spring Season.
The Field Forms are being updated. They will be on line by the beginning of the new year. If the field is not close to regulation, it may not be accepted for League play.
Good of the Game
Last year the WAGS Tournament had some left over apparel. Louise suggested giving them to Michelle Akers' outreach program. There are children all over the world that are now wearing WAGS t-shirts and uniforms. Hopefully there will be pictures to share of the players for next year's program.
In closing, Kathie thanked everyone for all of their time and effort they put into making WAGS such a great league. She wished everyone a happy holiday.
Kathie asked if she could adjourn the meeting a little differently. She stated that it was "Our little ray of sunshine's birthday and wanted everyone to embarrass Robin and sing happy birthday to her.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm
Respectfully Submitted,
Robin Miller, WAGS League Adminstrator
